How to Calculate a HubSpot Contact’s Age Using Tick Tock Today

As an active HubSpot user, you like to keep track of your different customer demographics. Which is why it may help to separate them into different groups depending on their ages.

But even if you know their birthdates, HubSpot doesn’t allow you to constantly track that. So what do you do then? Go through every contact record and manually calculate how old they all are? You’d age quite a bit yourself before finishing!

But with some help from Tick Tock Today, this task becomes a snap! It creates a property on selected records that tracks the current date.

With this, we can create an Age property that constantly updates with how long a customer has been around. Let’s dive in!

How to select an object for Tick Tock Today

First things first! We need to make sure that your contact records are being updated with today’s date.

Log in to your hapily portal here and click Tick Tock Today > My Objects in the left sidebar. Make sure the Contact object is selected and click Save. This will allow Tick Tock Today to update all contacts with a today’s date property!

Now that Tick Tock Today is working its magic on your contact records, it’s time to get cracking! You’ll need to know your contacts' birthday in order to make this calculation. I’d recommend having them fill this out on a form. Make sure the birthday property's Field type is set to date picker!

1. In your HubSpot Portal, click Settings and then Properties in the left side bar.

2. The Select an object field should already be set to Contact properties by default, but check it just to be sure.

3. Click Create property.

4. Select a Group and name your property. I’d recommend something along the lines of Age but you can be as creative as you want! Click Next when you’re ready.

5. For the Field type, select Calculation and then click Build calculation.

6. To calculate the age, we'll need this property to track the time between the contact’s birthday and today! So for Calculated property type we’ll select Time between.

7. For the Start Date, select the Birthday property you have set up.

8. For the End Date, select Tick Tock Today. This is the property that holds today’s date!

9. Click Create and you’re done.

So what’s going to happen now? Once a contact’s birthday is known, the age property you just created will take that date and calculate how much time has passed between then and the Tick Tock Today property!

I set the contact’s birthday to my birthday 10/31/1996. I’m only 26 at the time of this post, but hold on! The Age property is set to 27!

This is due to the fact that HubSpot’s Time Between calculation rounds up to the nearest unit depending on specific thresholds. That being said, that’s just how it’s displayed. The calculation itself is accurate!
